Just under a year ago, I got a hitRECord cheque for $3.43. Today I got a cheque for $67.08. I remember last time I said that I never thought my art was worth anything, that it was an amazing experience to discover that your art is appreciated somewhere, by someone. I’m not saying that money is what makes art worth something, but it does help fund what I like to do, and help me keep doing it.
It makes me unbelievably happy to know that this $67.08 actually represents opportunities that I have had to create, to work with amazing people, to be part of something bigger. And that is worth more than any money. Honestly, next time pay me in jelly beans.
I put my first hitRECord cheque on my wall to remind myself that anything is possible, no matter how late you start, no matter how you fall into what you enjoy doing. You can make it work.
I’m going to invest this money in a new microphone so I can keep making stuff, just making it better. And maybe a new hat.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, hitRECord, for bringing me on this adventure with you. Here’s to the next challenge!!

Second Fiddle, Draft 1.
I’ve been working on this poem for the last week or so. It’s about how I have been feeling lately. Very stuck. Old habits. I have given myself quite a mental beating these past couple of days, and this poem has been the result.
It’s still a work in progress, and I’m going to post drafts as they come and go…a little timeline of a work in progress. In the meantime, tell me what you think, where improvements can be made. I am really interested to hear your thoughts.

Whenever I am doubting myself or I am lacking inspiration, I always seem to come back to this song.
I wrote this song in an outpouring of love for a dear friend, one of those effortless moments where LizzieMackie’s instrumental came together perfectly with what I was feeling.
Whenever I feel like I am hitting a wall, this song reminds me that I can do it, and sometimes it’s best to do it by just saying what you really feel. Keeping it simple, and keeping it “love”.
